ARRIS Lisle Golf League Rules

updated: 8/1/19

Scoring

  • We will use the USGA handicap calculation. One difference is we will compute a handicap index when 6 or less rounds are played (so you will get a handicap index on the very first round played).
  • Points are awarded each week based on the standings for that week's game
  • Each week there may be opportunities for bonus points through a selected game (such as longest drive).
  • 50 points will be awarded for any eagles (gross score in league play only).
  • 200 points will be awarded for a hole-in-one (gross score in league play and outings)
  • The scoring system shall be documented on the website (Arrisgolf.com)

Dues

All regular players (not substitutes or guests) must pay dues for the first and second halves (9 rounds each) before the half begins. Dues include greens fees (which the president pays each round) and a small amount for league expenses (pizza party, trophies and prizes). A regular player will not be allowed to play if their dues are not paid in full.

Substitutes and Guest players pay for themselves each round.

Rules of Play

Ball in fairway:

You may improve your lie within six inches of the original position but not closer to the hole.

Ball in rough:

You may not improve your lie; play it where it lies.

Ball in sand trap:

You may not improve your lie; play it where it lies. You may not touch the sand with your club (termed "grounding the club") unless you are striking at the ball.

Exception: See League “Local Rules” for Ball in sand trap.

Ball in water hazard:

You may not improve your lie; play it where it lies, or, if the ball is unplayable:

You may, under penalty of one stroke, play the next stroke from the spot which the original ball was played,  or,

Ball in ‘Naturalized’ Or ‘No-mow’ areas:

You may drop a new ball one club-length from where the ball enter the Naturalized/No-mow area and proceed without penalty.

Lost ball:

If your ball is lost, you must, under penalty of one stroke, drop another ball as nearly as possible to the spot where the original ball is believed to have gone.

Out of bounds:

If you hit a ball out of bounds, you must, under penalty of one stroke, drop another ball within two club lengths and not closer to the hole as nearly as possible to the point where the original ball entered the out of bounds, or, per the correct rules of golf, hit another ball from the original spot and take one penalty stroke.

No mulligans. Ever!

Any attempt to strike the ball counts as a stroke.

A round will be considered "rained-out" if less than 50 percent of the league plays or if the course management closes the course.

League "Local Rules"

No more than two consecutive balls into the water on any hole. After two in the water, drop your next ball past the water hazard and take your next shot. For example, if you hit your first shot into the water, drop a ball behind the water hazard (or from the original position). This will be your third shot. If this shot goes into the water, drop the next ball in front of the water hazard. This will be your fifth shot.

No more than ten strokes on any hole. If you reach ten strokes, pick up your ball and move to the next tee.

Ball in sand trap (Exception to Rules of Play):

When a ball lands in a sand trap with wet sand, you may lift the ball, then rake the area in the bunker where the ball landed and then drop the ball back in the approximate spot from where it was lifted and then proceed with your shot. No penalty is incurred.

Variation to rule: if the sand trap contains standing water and the ball lands in that water, the ball may be retrieved, then an area of the sand trap may be raked, not closer to the hole and then drop ball on the raked area and then proceed with your shot. No penalty is incurred.

If the sand trap is completely filled with water and your ball landed in the water, you may drop your ball just outside the bunker not closer to the hole and proceed with your shot without incurring a penalty.

Ball in rocky drainage areas (Exception to Rules of Play):

When your ball or stance is in a rocky drainage area you may drop your ball just outside the drainage area but not closer to the hole and proceed with your shot without incurring a penalty.

Courtesy

Be ready to tee off 10 minutes before your allotted tee time, we often have free slots before us and can benefit from teeing off earlier if people are ready. If one foursome is not ready, then the next available foursome should swap places with them.

Do not spend excessive time looking for a lost ball. Please limit your search to two minutes per hole per foursome.

Do not be overly concerned with who is away on or around the greens. If the player who is away is not ready, the next player who is ready should shoot.

Please try to keep pace with the group ahead of you.

OOB Amendments

Hole 1: The driving range on hole 1 is not considered OOB, you have the option of playing the ball in the range (which can be hazardous) or bringing your ball back to the point where it crossed into the range. In either case, there is no penalty taken.  Also, ignore the left OOB markers.

Hole 6: We will ignore the on course OOB markers around the trees on the right hand side of the bunker, this comes into play on your drive. Most people were playing their balls from this position, so we have made an official exception
